International Procurement Agency b.v., through its joint venture CAIPA, is pleased to confirm that on the 24th March 2016 the first flight touched down at Juba International Airport with a full load of pharmaceuticals for the DFID funded pharmaceutical distribution programme in South Sudan. Because CAIPA has been able to establish a custom office at their warehouse, the cargo was transferred directly from the platform into the CAIPA warehouse to undergo custom clearance. About 2,5 hrs after the plane landed, the goods were off-loaded at the warehouse and ready for distribution.
CAIPA is particulairly proud of the extremely quick turn around of the procurement process and delivery. Loading in the Netherlands was effected on 23 March at 11.00 hrs with discharge in Juba, South Sudan on 24 March 16.00 hrs.
About the project:
The South Sudan Emergency Procurement and Distribution of Essential Drugs Project has been established by DFID in support of the Health Sector Development Plan 2012-2016 of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan (GRSS). It aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality and improve the overall status and quality of life of the South Sudanese population. The UK is a major donor to South Sudan with the Department of International Development (DFID) leading on this project.
GRSS have committed to fully supply essential drugs and medical commodities to deliver essential health care through primary care facilities and hospitals in the country. With the Emergency Medical Fund (EMF) coming to an end at the end of 2015 an urgent intervention is needed to avoid a crisis in 2016.
CAIPA have been appointed as the procurement agent for the Programme and is responsible for procurement, delivery and initial distribution of the goods in South Sudan.
